In our new book we have a comic section where the kids act out the parts and then they get to draw the endings or what the people do/say next. One of my students has very unique endings and most of the time ends up with a person dying or being killed. It’s more of a joke and not so much crazy. I still love my job despite some students who either refuse to participate in anything or those who are just bad in general.

Snow Day

Today I woke up and saw that It snowed a good amount and thought It would be wonderful to have the day off. I was told that having a snow day was a rarity in Korea, but alas! Fred called me and said classes were canceled! holler. Then I got another phone call that said to come to work still. I took a quick 15 minute shower and ran to work. I was told to go home once I got there. blah. After I got home, I decided to pay my bills; My gas bill was 45buckz and my electric was 10. I saw the view of a nearby mountain (mountains are everywhere here) and thought it was a glorious scene. There were many little kids outside playing in the snow and sledding with their parents and friends. The little tiny Korean kids are absolutely adorable. They look like little marshmallows and can barely walk around because of all the clothes they have on. Life is still wonderful.

Happy New Years

I was on the subway for 90 minutes and missed the countdown. There were 5 minutes left before midnight and I knew I wasn’t going to make it to West Island so I stopped in at McDonald’s and got myself a big mac and fries. That’s how I rang in my new year.

On another Note:
They don’t salt anything here, shovel snow or put up “caution slippery floor” signs. And you know what’s funny? Nobody ever falls. That shit doesn’t fly back home. I also noticed that my mouthwash bottle DOES NOT have a child safety lock on it. America is going to be very strange for me whenever I get back.

I forgot how great Modest Mouse is/was.

I was having a dream that I was with my mom and brother grocery shopping and I was comparing all the prices to Korea. I never had dreams about my family until I left the country. It’s strange. The past three days I’ve locked myself in my apartment and became a hermit. I’ll never do that again. I bought a sweet Samsung point and shoot camera. It’s cool to own something that you can’t buy in the US. I mainly bought it because it’s very small compared to my big bulky camera and for the sweet HDvideo option. Yesterday I decided to breakout of my house and BAM, there was 4 inches of snow on the ground. Maybe I should check the wather more often. There weren’t any roads paved and people were still driving like assholes. The delivery guys were even still driving on their scooters, but they were going really slow…and they also had both feet on the grown to keep balance…usually they are driving around like assholes, too. Seriously, these scooter dudes go by any way possible to deliver their food. Also, I was chased by some cute angry dog. I think he wanted to eat me, and I just wanted to pet him.

Every night I go to sleep thinking ” Am I really here?”. It feels like It’s only been a month since I’ve been here. Christmas came and went. It was just another day like all the rest. It’s only a special day when you can celebrate with good friends and loved ones.

This was taken outside of my apartment during a foggy night. It’s been very cold recently and tomorrow the high will be 15 degrees and as low as 8. I live on a very popin’ corner with some popular pork, chicken and seafood place. Damn, and you can go out and eat a full meal for only 8 bucks. I live next to the chicken place. I’m lucky enough to have the window next to their bathroom, and every night they turn the bathroom into a noibong(singing room). It only has one stall, but sometimes a group will be in there singing. Thank you soju for making this possible.

I love my neighborhood.
